As a designer I am always creating. Whether it is for work, as part of a freelance project, personal side projects, or just for fun. This is a collection of some of that work. This is the work that doesn't quite warrent a large case study in a portfolio, but was a fun design exploration, helped me practice a new skill, or inspired me along the way.
This series of Seattle music posters came to life as a last minute soluiton while designing one of our conference Keynote presentations that needed to highlight "good design principles"
The resulting work was a collection of 8 posters for bands from the city of Seattle that accentuated layout, color, hierarchy, and typography.
These Seattle band posters are my personal spin on the work of one of my favorite designers, Mike Joyce, and his acclaimed graphic series Swissted. Which focused on the use of type and layout in poster design.
Applying those same core ideas I was able to bring to life this Seattle spin on the idea that was an immediate hit for the 15,000 attendees in the audience. Some even asking where they could get their hands on the posters haha.
To celebrate each of the cities our Tableau Conference on Tour was traveling to in 2017, I created a set of illustrations that could instantly connect with the audience in a friendly and identifiable way.
It is cool to see a project that was born in a sketchbook now appears on the conference app, signage, tshirts, and even as small buttons that the attendees can wear at the event.
I'll admit it, I love to nerd out on stuff and there's nothing better than deep diving into some Star Wars. This is the way. Ever since I was a little kid I loved the movies, the card games, the video games, and action figures.
One of the things that has always resonated with me is the beautiful settings that the saga takes place in - this illustration set was an exploration of those far far away worlds.
Several years ago I was very into football - I still am - but back then the Seahawks were winning Super Bowls, the Huskies were ranked top-5 in the country, things were good. Fueled by the success of my teams and creative energy, I worked to make some ugly christmas sweaters that combined the sports with some style.
The designs were a hit and to this day, is still one of my favorite projects.
