The Data Leadership Collaborative is a new website we launched in 2021 to bring together data-centric leaders to connect, learn, and help each other succeed in building data-driven organizations. I was the art director for the project collaborating with several external agencies to help create a new visual identity, brand, messaging, and website.
It is always a thrill to create something new and as the Art Director for the project, I got to influence and ideate on every aspect of the project. Working closely with the marketing & advertising agency, PJA, the ideas for this new thought leadership data community started to take shape. It was a collaborative approach with the Tableau team and the agency that covered all the elements of building a brand including naming, tone of voice, mission statements, goals, and what it could look like.
This was a chance to dream a little bigger, create something new, As an in-house designer, these projects are incredibly exciting. It meant exploring new typography, patterns, layouts, and color palettes outside the normal Tableau brand – all tied together by the larger elements of our brand like personality, community, and culture.
Similar to the Tableau Community website, this Data Leadership Collaborative had a fundamental perspective in bringing people together around data and analytics. One of the keywords I focused on while establishing the visual identity was Authentic - we have an amazing group of leaders in the industry - so let's bring them into the design.
Highlighting real people in our photography puts them at the center and elevates the content and discussions they are contributing to on the site. Combining that authenticity with a black and white color palette allowed us to create this rich, sophisticated, and flexible design language to build from.
At this point, we had a name, we had a brand, we had an amazing panel of contributors and articles – but we needed a place to share the story. We needed to give these data leaders a forum. We needed a website. Enter the awesome BlinkUX team who helped take our ideas and pushed us to create a thoughtful, beautiful, and seamless online experience.
For the next several weeks and months I worked closely with the BlinkUX creative team iterating on wireframes, layout ideas, and prototypes. The creativity in the room was infectious. Soon we handed off design files to our web development agency, Palantir.net, and working closely with the internal Tableau marketing team we were able to quickly build and launch dataleadershipcollaborative.com
